Amelia Earhart Day

July 24 is Amelia Earhart Day! Amelia Earhart is known for being the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, but disappeared in 1937 in an attempt to fly around the globe. Other than flying airplanes, Earhart is known for being a best-selling author, creating an organization for female pilots called The Ninety Nines, and working at Purdue University to help counsel women in search of a career while sharing her love of aviation. In 2009, a biographical film starring Hilary Swank was released in honor of Earhart’s accomplishments.
